Welcome to DW. Not too sure about it yet myself, but at the very least it is a good back-up of my LJ posts.
I actually use Semagic to do all my posts for both LJ and DW. It is a great desktop app which definitely beats the horrible LJ web interface. You can check it out at http://semagic.sourceforge.net/
